Taylor's Cupcake Challenge #76

Good afternoon! I had a few minutes on Sunday to play along with Taylor's sketch for this week. As soon as I saw this one, I knew it was going to involve some layering, so out came the dp. I don't usually do a whole lot of layers, so this sketch made me stretch those skills just a little. It's good not to let them get too rusty. :)

However, I admit that layers of lots of prints still scare me a little bit. Therefore, I opted to only you one dp and keep it simple on the eyes. Out came the Washington Apple dp, and I chose a simple pattern that wouldn't overwhelm the card. I had the idea to use a teapot in the circle, so I wanted a pattern that felt a bit daintier.

I popped up the teapot and the sentiment for some dimension, but other than that, I think this is a pretty self-explanatory card.

Packing officially begins today for my vacation up to Bend, Oregon! I leave bright and early Tuesday morning to go visit my best friend, Heather, and my sister, Sharon, whom are both currently living in Bend. Love it when I can kill two birds with one stone! We already have some grand plans for dinners out and some tubing down the Deschutes river. Should be fun! I always have lots of time to sit and read on my trips up there as well, which is always welcome. I am a certifiable bookaholic. My stack of "books to read" is getting taller and taller, so this will be the perfect opportunity to widdle it down a little.

Have a wonderful rest of your Sunday! Thanks for stopping by.

Taylor's Cupcake Challenge #75

Can I just begin by saying how much I love Taylor's sketch this week?! I will definitely be using this one over and over again in the future! It's so simple, and yet packs a big punch.

I stuck with a very simple color scheme since I wanted to make this more of a wedding card. No, I don't have any weddings coming up, but I was going through my collection of cards and realized I had no more wedding cards! Ah! Definitely time to whip a few for the reserves.

I just got the Cosmo Cricket Everafter paper pack and am loving it! I've seen quite a few cards out there made with this dp and I've loved everything I've seen. It was definitely time to grab some of the paper for myself. :)

I combined two stamp sets to create this card. The first is Hearts of Fire from Verve and the sentiment is from SU's Short & Sweet. Love that little set. After stamping and popping up the hearts, I covered all three of them in glossy accents and sprinkled some glitter over the middle orange heart for some sparkle. A quick bow/twine/button combo added a fun little accent (and I'm addicted to the technique). Some pearls from Michael's line the sentiment.

I really love how this card turned out! Such a clean, elegant feel to it...

Thanks for stopping by today!

Taylor's Cupcake Challenge #73

It's been a good week here, though I'm still glad it's the weekend. My roommate and I both washed our cars since the weather has been so nice and they really needed it. I had a few more rounds of physical therapy for my bum arm and actually touched my left shoulder with my left hand for the first time in two months! Still working on the sqeezing thing with my hand... that seems to be the biggest issue right now. Amy and I also purchased tickets to go see the touring Broadway show of "Chitty Chitty Bang Band" in early July! How fun is that?! I love that movie with Dick Van Dyke! Saw the new Transformers movie, went to Bible study, slept in, made some good food (and cards)... It's been a good week. But enough of me rambling, on to the card!

This card was actally made using last Friday's sketch from Taylor. I decided to go really bright, and a bit out of my comfort zone with this one. I hereby admit that I am not sad to see Kiwi Kiss and Pacific Point disappear into oblivion. They are just way to bright and odd for my taste. I hardly ever use them. But I do have few scraps sitting around from my original in colors sample pack and figured I might as well use them up.

I also figured it was about time to ink up this little stamp that I bought about six months ago. She's just been sitting in my drawer, staring at me every time I open it. And every time I open it I think, "Gee, I really should use that stamp someday. It's too cute." Well that day finally came! lol I stamped her in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored her with my copics. To make her pants more of a Pacific Point color I mixed a blue and a turquoise together. I popped up the image panel and added some brads at the last minute, though I think I needed to scoot them a little to the left. Too late now!

Thanks for stopping by!

Taylor's Cupcake Challenge #71

Good afternoon! It's another lazy summer day around here. I slept in again, which was a little tricky. My arm is still healing from the break, and apparently I did some nerve damage as well. Yesterday my doctor gave me this "terminator" brace to wear at night to help hold my arm straight... I think I woke up about ten times last night from that bulky contraption. But if it works, it's worth it! I ran to the grocery store this morning (the fridge was getting a little empty), and decided to pick and pickle some of my pickling cucumbers. Let's hope they turn out! This was my first try at pickling!

I love this sketch from Taylor this week! I just had to play along! I immediately went to my Bloom & Grow dp by My Mind's Eye. Love this stuff! I did a bit more laying than my normal, but I really like how this card turned out. Very soft... I started with an image in the middle, but change to a sentiment... I couldn't figure out where else I would put one without upsetting the balance of my card. Verve stamps to the rescue! They seriously have my most favorite sentiment stamps. I did two layers of ribbon and then tied a knot in that back layer. A few jewels at the top gave it just enough sparkle.

Thanks for stopping by!

Raspberry Suite Color Challenge #5

Good morning and Happy Saturday! I absolutely love sleeping in on Saturdays... not to say that I sleep in late (this whole being an adult thing and waking up at the same time my alarm goes off even though it isn't even set thing really stinks!). But it felt nice to lay in bed and realize that I had nowhere to be, no one waiting for me. I could lay there as long as I wanted.

I really wanted to play along with Dawn McVey's color challenge for this week. The colors she chose are ones that I would probably have never thought to use together, but I really like how this turned out! I definitely had to play with them a bit, and I tried using a few different sketches, but they required too many dp papers or decorative backgrounds. With such bright colors, I needed the layout to be a bit simpler this week. Enter Taylor's Cupcake Challenge! I love to play along with her sketches, but have been sadly absent from them since January! Ah! It was definitely time to break that long silence.

I stamped the image in Regal Rose and sponged some Berry Sorbet onto the ends for a little shading. The dp is Bitty Dots by Papertreyink in Raspberry Fizz. I didn't have any coordinating ribbon, so I pulled out some white grossgrain and colored it with my copic markers. Lastly, I added a little bling with a row of rhinestones from Michael's.... love those things.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
