Viva la Verve!

Happy New Year! Can you believe it is actually 2010? Some of my friends and I were laughing last night that we are beyond Space Oddessy territory here and we are yet to be commuting in flying cars, with computers that think for themselves, and people living on other planets, roaming the galaxy.... And yet we're all blessed to be here, where we are. What an amazing time to be alive and experiencing God's incredible creation!

I do apologize for my extended absence from the blog-o-sphere. I was taking a much needed vacation home, and then enjoying some down time back at my own house. I've spent time with friends, lots of time reading, and I actually picked up that afghan that I started to crochet two years ago but had to put down while I made a few others as gifts in between, hehe. I'm determined to finish it this time around.

I had a wonderfully fun New Year's Eve. My roommate and I went over to a college friend of ours and we played games all night long. I truly think that is one of my favorite things to do with friends. The laughs, the belly-aching, cheek cramping laughs.... So fun! We ate lots of junk food, roasted marshmallows, and took our pots outside to bang at midnight. I'm sure the neighbors loved us. :)

This morning I watched the Rose Parade on television (even though I only live about 3 miles away from it, hehe). It was nice to sleep in a little bit. I did have to get up earlier than planned because I drove my sister and her boyfriend over to the Rose Bowl for the game (about 3/4 mi from my house). Sharon and Luke are meeting up with a bunch of his family to attend the Oregon/Ohio game. They were fully decked out in Oregon gear and ready to cheer on their team. I drove them as close as I could get before the traffic became crazy. They walked the last 100 yards. :)

I am so excited about Amber's new vision for the Viva la Verve challenges for this year. Instead of having a "twist" each week, each month/week is going to be themed with different rooms of the house. We can use elements within, colors, anything really that inspires us. She also provided several inspirational pictures on the challenge forum for us to pull from. I chose the first picture. I loved that little bit of orange plaid on the table and immediately knew I had the perfect dp to mimic that same look! Love it when that happens. I also pulled my color scheme from the inspiration picture, added a few buttons, and of course ribbon. ;)

I really felt like paper piercing on this card, but for the life of me can't find my paper piercer. I think it might have been a casualty of the move a few months back. I have seriously searched high and low for that thing and I can't find it! I guess it might be time to go shopping and get a new one. I used a sewing needle to pierce on this card, but that little tiny needle was getting harder and harder to hold on to by the time I got to the third side, lol.

I themed this card as a wedding card to help myself out. My cousin Alyson is getting married tomorrow and I realized yesterday that I hadn't made her a card yet! Ack! So a big congrats to Alyson!

I pray that this new year will find you all blessed and surrounded by those you love! Have a wonderful Friday!

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Welcome home, Kristina and happy New Year! I got your card on Wednesday...and love that it was a PTI one :) So adorable...love the white floss...that's from a pen? What's it called? As soon as you said, orange plaid, this paper came to mind as well...I love it!! I've been so caught up with winter/Christmas paper that it will be fun to dig out the other stuff now. Gorgeous colour combo...your friend is sure to love it :) Thanks for the kind words and prayers about mom...we're doing ok...it was expected, but always a shock when it happens. We are fortunate to have great faith that she is in Heaven, whole and lovely with her memories again :) I will take next week off from work...for the funeral, to help dad, and rest...don't want to be crying in class at the slightest memory. I am blessed to have a job that allows for this :) Take card and ttys,

  2. Love what you've created for the first new Verve sketch of 2010. Your DP is perfect and the colours are fabulous. I love that PTI leaf too. Glad to hear you had some great times at home with family and your New Year's sounded wonderful. I too love to play games and with the kids getting Monopoly City for Christmas, we've had fun :D Glad you got your snow fix too! My DH would be green with envy knowing you live so close to the Rose Bowl! He is a HUGE college football fan and would love to go to a Rose Bowl. Some day, I hope to actually be able to send him to one :D Blessings for a fabulous 2010!!
